I was wondering for most high school runners who go sub 17 what mileage they run? I run 17:30 at 45 miles per week.

This is where the "art" of coaching comes in to find out what mileage (and other workouts) will result in the best progress. Work with your HS coach on this. Some people respond to high quality and low quantity; others are just the opposite. There's no magic number for weekly mileage.
I ran 16:24 5k on 25-30 mpw. For track I ran 4:35 for 1600 on 20-25mpw. I was more of a low mileage person. Just worry about what works for you. Some people have success at lower mileage but some have succes with higher mileage.
This depends a lot on the person. Some can do it on n mileage at all, some do 70 mpw and don't get there. You should go over it with your coach to see what they think the best course of action for you is.
For the record, I hit 17:30 on 55ish mpw
