800 is a big mans race. I ran 1:52 in high school
Umm, I say 1:49.20 sucks as an 800m time in the Diamond League. Just because he runs for Nike doesn't mean he should be in the race.
I tell you what I DO like, though: All the f-ing idiots who thought that Centro is capable of 1:43 and whatnot, well look at that--not even close. So shut up, ventolin & crowd.
He was jet-lagged. I knew when his reaction to the final backstraight was

Oh God that's good!
CHA BOIIIIII CENTRO. But seriously, he's gonna get pissed. And if you weigh less than 120 pounds he's gonna threaten to kick your ass

Matthew's first race across the pond is often jet-lagged and sluggish. NBD.
This race is no guide. He ran 1:44.62 last time out. Don't you think that is just a little more predictive of his max than this lousy race?

No.
His max potential just changed from 144 high to 149 low.

Last race was on one of those short Chinese tracks.
Centro's shipment of used magazines and books was delayed, alas; should have borrowed the good stuff from shipping-pro Farah.

jjjjjj, I like your posts, and they're almost always, if not always, sensible, so I'm going to be civil with you. I personally don't believe that either time is predictive of his potential; all they predict is that he might be able to run that time again under similar conditions. What I was really focusing on is that 1:43 is quite fast, and not only did Centrowitz not go sub-1:43, he didn't even come close to his PR, which I think shows how tough it will be for him to ever come close to 1:44-low, let alone 1:430-low as some predicted.

The time doesn't matter because I am sure he pretty much packed it in the last 50 meters. He probably could have eked out a 1:47, but what does that matter you are no where near the leaders.
Disnt Kara say at USA's she was coming out with more info about the NOP? So much for that...
are you stupid?

He is capable of alot faster than what he just ran you idiot
Yes 1:49 isnt very good at for a diamond league race but you are honestly stupid as S**t if you dont think that he could run any faster than that
I hope you know that youre an idiot
He had an off race. It happens. And he probably wouldnt have PRd in this race anyways since only Amos and Rudisha went under 1:44 and Rotich was the only one under 1:45.
Duane Solomon is a 1:42 guy who ran over 3 minutes last time out...bad races happen. No big deal at all. He has said his first race in europe is usually awful. Makes sense then to run an 800. Does not take a ton out of you, gets the rust off and he will come back and run 3:30 his next race.
Dear Toasted,
YOU are the idiot for posting what you posted without reading my response to jjjjj, where your *concerns* (ahem) for my intelligence were addressed. To reiterate, I was NOT trying to say that 1:49 is the fastest that Centrowitz COULD go, but rather that his 1:49 today shows it's a LOT harder for him to go 1:43 than many suspected based on their predictions. So, now that you understand where I'm coming from, you can go back to setting porches on fire, you bag of sh*t.

And did you NEVER run slower than 1:55? If so, Alberto should look into how you never had bad races.
Not only an off race... an off peak race. He probably just buckled down with a big block before USAs (and the rest of the americans).
But 1:49? He quit! You could see that on the finishing straight. He did not run hard. Probably could've done 1:47. You know Centro has an ego and if he's in last he's not going to fare well.
