Ok, so I'm just another HS kid trying to get in shape for cross country in the fall.
I'm going to be a hs sophomore only ran a lot and seriously for XC last year.
I then trained over the winter in the 25-35mpw range before track season. I am much more endurance based than speed based so here are my pr's:
800: 2:31
1600: 5:07
3200: 10:40
5K XC (first time doing real, consistent training last fall): 18:21
I plan on really trying to boost the mileage this summer (being able to double a few times a week).
After building up, I plan on using a summer of Malmö like schedule like this for example:
Sun: LR 9-12 miles + striders
Mon AM: easy run 6-8 miles + striders
Mon PM: easy run 5 miles
Tues: Track session- alternating long intervals AND short intervals like described in summer of Malmö
Wed AM: easy run 6-8 miles +striders
Wed PM: easy run 5 miles
Thurs: Tempo run 4-6 miles
Friday AM: easy run 6-8 miles + striders
Friday PM: easy run 5 miles
Saturday: Off
Total mileage: 50-60 (usually around 60)
I play other sports and work so i will likely need to have a day off each week as I won't have time to run.
The strides would be after the run and about 100 m with full recovery
Will also do some strength work ie core/push-ups etc. most days
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
