I'm a high school junior, and I'm looking almost exclusively at small liberal arts schools like Pomona and Swarthmore, and I really want to be able to run in college. Academically I am probably on the verge of being able to get into these elite schools (34 ACT and 3.84 UW GPA).
I have communicated with a few coaches, but I still have a few questions about the whole recruiting process, specifically for D3 schools:
1) Would my times be good enough to be recruited at D3 schools like Pomona, Swarthmore, Oberlin, etc.? My PR's are 16:51 for the 5K; 4:44 in the 1600m, which was a 20-second improvement from my PR last year; and 10:11 in the 3200m (I think I kind of plateaued after XC this past year). If not, what times should I be running this cross country season to be recruitable? I know times vary from school to school so I'm sorry if this is a vague question.
2) When does the recruiting process go into full swing? Even though I've talked to coaches, the subject of recruiting hasn't come up, so I'm not sure if I should be starting that conversation or if they will eventually.
Thanks for any advice
