Not the best of conditions and not the worst either.
He solo ran from the gun and clearly was trying to break 4.
Had he done so I believe only Jim Ryan can claim a sub four in a all high school non rabitted, non select exebition race.
He was so very close.
Came back about 1:40 later and won the 3200 in a sit and kick the last 200 m in 8:53.
Nice double Grant, you make Michigan proud.
One problem, Jim Ryun's race was an actual mile, not 9 meters short. So, Fisher is still 2+ seconds behind the sub-4 with that performance
I was at the meet.
Fisher ran 4:00.28 for the 1600 m and 4:01.66 for the mile. Yes in the same race. There was timing set up for the mile and Fisher ran through the 1600 m finish line and through another finish tape held at the mile mark.
So for all of you who have algorithms to equate different distances, Fisher's differential was factually 1.38 seconds. Not 2 seconds and not 1.6 seconds.
Actually 1.67 seconds off of sub 4
He finished his last 50 m very fast.
And yes I was comparing a mile not 1600 when mentioning Ryan and sub 4 in a pure high school race.
