Genetics, baby.

You genetics people are dumb. Obviously this kid has been doing some kind of training. I'm going to guess some mix of basketball and soccer.
He's on flintstones vitamins fortified with l-carnitine

Then everyone who plays ball would run 4:26. He is a genetically gifted runner who dabbles at ball.

I coached a kid who ran 9:36 as a freshman with no running background and no ball sport experience. Some people are just gifted, can't you get your head around that?

A genetically gifted kid who is relatively active and then starts training for 3 months can run 4:26. 4:26 is not just had by 14 and 15 year olds who train a ton. There are examples every year where some kid who never did much athletically before goes out for track and runs some crazy time almost immediately. I know of two in Ohio right now.
Genetics is the No. 1 thing in determining how far you can go. Have to train too, but the best of the best are genetically gifted.
It's ALL genetics. Kid has talent.
The sad thing is that he's probably got no interest in running and will never run under 4:10.

Why would "then everyone who plays ball would run 4:26"? This is a further example of how illogical and irrational you genetics people are.

So exactly which genes do they have Flagpole? Genetics is NOT the number 1 thing. Training is the number 1 thing.

I used to play soccer 6 days a week including at every break and lunchtimes and I doubt I could ever have broken 5:00.
How do you explain people who train year around getting whipped by someone who barely gets off his couch? It happens all the time.

Genetics is the number one thing for enabling training to matter.

Hey you're the one that said a mix of basketball and soccer led to a 4:26.
And you would say that if he ran 3:50 as well.

Then they didn't want it badly enough. The person who wins always wants it more... duh

I have reluctantly won races on many occasions.

CORRECT!
All the training in the world doesn't mean a hill of beans if you don't have the genetics. But a dude with GREAT genetics and little to no training can bust a decent time and beat a lot of better trained runners. Bekele in his prime could have taken 6 months off with no running and rolled out of bed one day and trounced fit, trained athletes...because his talent is off the charts. Training will make him better from that point though, of course.
Kenyan or Ethiopian?

I said for this kid. I did not say that simply doing a mix of those two sports would lead everyone to a 4:26.

Correct. it will only lead the genetically gifted to a 4;26. As we well know.
