Wonder what Ryan Hall will do...
LA Marathon
43 mins ยท
Weather Advisory: March 9, 2015
The current weather forecast for Sunday, March 15th calls for record high heat. The weather conditions pose a high level of risk for marathoners and all participants should be advised of the following:
What the ASICS LA Marathon is doing:
- Increasing supply of aid, including water and Gatorade Endurance Formula at all 24 aid stations
- Providing 'cooling buses' along the course and at the finish line
- Providing cooling fans, cold sponges, cold towels and ice
- Extending the length of time finish line services will be available
- Providing updates with additional resources added to event
Everyone who participates should strongly consider running at a slower pace than they would normally plan to run a marathon. If you're not accustomed to running in high temperatures, slow down and enjoy the experience.
We will make every effort to keep our runners well-informed throughout the week with race alerts and advice from Keck Medicine of USC. Please check back to our website, Facebook and Twitter pages for regular updates.
Going to be hot in LA on Sunday

Low 65, High 91. I would imagine that temps will be in the mid to upper 70s for the elites. And they picked LA over Houston for the trials.
-
His DNF chances have tripled.
-
Good thing the marathon is in the morning when it will be high 60s to low 70s. That isn't wr temperature, but should not effect the race much. Then again with them calling for a high of 89, if it warms up faster, things could get rough.
-
start time moved up to 6:55...
-
And the last few miles will be closer to the beach, which will help some. Temps will be a bit cooler
-
Great to be in L.A., the most visible city in the world. At least once a year the marathon is the focus of world attention, instead of just being a footnote. We don't get no love ever do we?
-
I wonder how many pros will not start? I bet the race will be much different than we would of otherwise thought.
-
why would pros not start? prize $$$ is by placing, not time. everyone is competing under the same conditions, so who cares if you run "slow" but still get in the money.
also it's a US champs race. so again, placing is all that matters.

Unless the elites are coming immediately from a very cold climate, it shouldn't make a difference as another post is correct, they are running toward the sea where it tends to be very cool and they aren't starting downtown at 11AM.
Maybe the easiest way to describe it is to check the temperatures in Santa Monica, CA, LAX, or even Malibu. That's what they will run in. -
I am looking forward to all of the complaining. The reason Ryan Hall will run slower than 2:15 is NOT weather related.
-
Should move it to 6:00.
-
I hope I\'m wrong, but I expect this is bad news for Ryan Hall. He\'s not a hot weather runner.
The trials will be in February in 2016, so at least that increases the odds for decent weather for next year. -

Temps this high in March are not normal. Temps on Sunday will be near the record high. Average high for that day is usually about 15 degrees cooler. -

The trials will also be in February like I posted.
Average February high/low temperatures in LA are 50/64.3 F. In Houston for February, the averages are 46.5/66.3. From a running standpoint, neither is likely to have better weather than the other in February. -
It would have been in January if Houston had been selected. It was in the mid-30s at the start in '12. LA moved their race mid-Feb. for next year as to give the athletes more time to recover and as we're finding out hopefully cooler weather.

Exactly, and definitive proof that Global Warming is real. You deniers insisted that Global Warming was not happening and now it is to late. There is nothing that can be done now except accepting the end of the world, or at least of life on earth, is imminent. -

Normally, I think you'd be right, but I believe this is a bit different, as it's a big high pressure front that will be camped over L.A., including the coast, so I'm not sure if the typical cooling ocean breezes will be in effect. -

Fair enough.
Using January weather in Houston you get an average high/low of 43.2/62.9 (with a record low of 5 and a record high of 87), vs. 50/64.3 for LA in February. The odds of suitable weather for Houston in January are still not significantly better than LA in February. -

Yep, Hall's new chance of DNF is listed at 297% according to the Vegas bookmakers.
