Has anyone had success on the track or roads after a long period of treadmill training? Do you know anyone who has been successful after just treadmill training? Please share.

Yes, one winter I did 9 out of ten runs on the treadmill. I went from 20:32 5K times the previous fall to running 21 flat. So I barely lost any fitness at all. And I\'m not sure I even regressed on the TM, I think it was mostly due to my running only 60-65% of my normal volume (could not handle more than 40 miles per week on the \'mill, just too boring)
So hang in there man, you will PR again some day as I eventually did by the following autumn.
I'm an 800/mile guy and I did about 95% of my runs on a treadmill totaling roughly 35-40 miles each week. Tempo runs were also done on the treadmill. I did 3 interval workouts, 1 on an outdoor track and 2 on an indoor track. I supplemented with aqua jogging. Ran 1:50 and 4:11 indoors with that training.
Treadmill works fine, just put the incline up a notch.

Pool running good too.
Friend broke 4 doin that.
Depends. i would always prefer to run outdoors but at present (due to hours of darkness, work etc) running outdoors means running on the roads at times when traffic is quite heavy. At my age (57) this inevitably leads to injuries from the pounding on the pavement so I have started to use a treadmill at the local gym. Hated it at first but growing to like it more. Have built up to 50 minutes. Always start with 10 minutes very slow to get accustomed to the machine - it is a bit different to running outdoors - and then play about with speed and incline. Can get a hard workout in but cannot exhaust myself as I can outdoors because I lack the confidence to run all out. I am sort of tempted to continue with the treadmill all year round to see what effect it has but now spring is almost here i will be hitting the country for a lot of my runs so won't need the treadmill as much.
I believe the USA had a woman qualify for the Olympics who did all of her training on a TM. I think she was in Alaska.
