Anything to with Japanese running is annoying AF.
Why so much hoopla and circle****ing surrounds Japanese distance running is one of life's great mysteries.
They aren't any closer to the E. Africans than we are. They suck, just like us.

So, Cain, Efraimson, Simpson, Flanagan, Rowbury and (soon) Huddle and Coburn mean nothing to you?
Japan has that Suguru guy who beat the Americans two weeks ago. Was 2nd at Armory Invite (despite Letsruns continuous misreporting that he was 3rd behind Blankenship). Larner reported it correctly without typical hyperbole you would see from Letsrun.

Soft Kenyan wrote:And why didn't you mention Kuira, wejo?
Because a Kenyan debuting in 59:47 is not as unusual as a Kiwi. Everyone on here was talking about Robertson's run not Kuira's.
If the Bahamas make the next World Cup and so does Germany on the same day I think more people will be talking about the Bahamas.
He was not a Kenyan debuting in 59:47. He was a runner debuting in 59:47.
So now because he was born in Kenya his fantastic time in his debut is worth less than Zane's?
We are not talking about teams but about an individual.
Sure, I agree that it's more unusual (unheard of even) for a white guy to debut under 60 but that takes nothing away from Kuira's performance and I think you should have praised it just as much.

Cool story bro. Not a big meet though.
Larner's comment about the President in the comments section is priceless

Like so many Kenyans (who conveniently have birthdays in January so they can remain eligible for Junior records in the year they "turn 20"
Why act like you know about a topic when you're clearly ignorant on it?
Most rural Kenyans could not tell you their kids' birthdates without checking the certificate the hospital gave them. It would be normal to know your son was born the same year as Paul Kipkoechichir's kid Peter, but at least until very recently knowing the date would be like you and I knowing the exact second of our kids' birth to us: kind of weird and definitely pointless.
When these guys eventually need documentation for school, travel, etc, admin staff will inevitably fill in "Jan 1" so that the form isn't blank and can be input into records etc. If they are worried about being scrutinized maybe they will put Jan 10 or Jan 15. I once saw over ten patients in a row with birthdates "Jan 1" and trust me they weren't age-cheating to set junior records. They simply didn't give a flying fart what day they were born on. Frankly, other than administrative reasons why does it matter if I was born June 10 or June 20? (All Kenyans know who their "age-mates" are, i.e. classmates and neighbours born/circumsized/given a goat/whatever the same year as them.)
I am from the US but worked in Tanzania and Kenya a lot. Anyone with experience there, at least in small villages and farming areas, will back up that this is how it happens. Hell, ask Renato.
Let's state the obvious here. When a Kenyan runs a sub-60 half-marathon, it doesn't cause much of a stir because it has happened so many times before.
When a New Zealander (or American, or Aussie, or Limey, or Canadian, if/when that ever happens) breaks 60 for 13.1, it does generate some excitement because it is such a rare achievement for that group of people.
Sure, there may be a few who have some extreme racist angle on it, but for the most part, I don't think racism is a big factor in the excitement around Robertson's 59:48. Same with the French guy breaking 10 for 100m. Maybe the reason Americans get so excited about Zane Robertson is that it gives a slight hope that they can compete with the East Africans - is that so bad?

No, you didn't fix it. What I said was correct.
Leo & Galen won olympic silver medals. Plural.
Nick & Jenny won world championship silver medals. Plural.
Meb has won the NYC marathon & the Boston marathon. Plural.
Jenny has a World's gold, Kara Worlds bronze, Shalane Oly and world cross bronze, Rowbury Worlds bronze, Wilson and Cain WJr gold, Efraimson youth bronze. Not even counting indoors.

Japanese have done WAY better in the marathon over the last 20 years, both in medals, major wins, and times, male and female. That much is not debatable.

Yeah, weird that, why would he want publicity just so he can increase traffic to his website?, talk about crazy business acumen.
Oh, I know, it's so idiots like you can make comments that you think are cutting edge and meaningful.
"If nobody hates you, you're doing it wrong"
Clever piece by Larner. Certainly makes a point. Unfortunately most of the LRC crowd can't see the point or are too xenophobic to care.
