I am currently a freshman in high school and am looking to break 5 minutes for the mile. However, there are two problems.
1. I am running more at the 5:20-5:30 pace currently
2. Only one week left of training before the last meet on Sunday.
I started out at the beginning of the season running faster than I am now, which confuses me because I have been training almost every day. My teammates are all progressing, yet I am not. For example one teammate dropped 4-5 seconds off his mile time each race and broke 5 minutes today. During these races I feel like I am working really hard, but the times do not reflect that. Overall I just feel tired, like I am just dragging my body and legs through the race. I have tried drinking more water, and am currently drinking about a half gallon to a gallon a day, so I do not think that dehydration is the problem. I also have gotten plenty of sleep and rest the two days before. My questions- is there any way for me to get rid of this feeling, and is is possible for me to break 5 minutes at the next meet. I am willing to work hard and do anything to break this barrier. If it is possible, could you please provide a workout routine that would help get me to run this time. My coach has me running random workouts, but if I provide him a workout that both he and I think would benefit me, then he is willing to have me run it. Thanks guys!
