Hey! So I have had a bunch of races this past month were I didn't do as great as I thought (5:20, 5:30, 5:25) for the mile even though my workouts should put me at 4:40's. After my races I feel fine but when running them I seem like im putting it all on the track, even though I am not. My coach said my times aren't matching up but my fitness is great and that I have a lot of strength now. He said its all mental. So if its mental, what can I do? I have a race in a couple days and want a really good time (its almost like a regional meet) but just need to fix my mental state. So what can/do I do? Im a sophomore in high school btw.
Before my races I usually:
- go over the time I want
- imagine the race
- imagine were I should be (middle of the pack so I can make a move)
- get a little nervous
During the race I usually stay behind a few guys to make my move but then they make a move and I try to make another move but I can't seem to catch up then I have a better than ever kick (too much at the end)
Any thoughts?
No hate and please be nice. My training is going great its just my bad racing and bad mental state. Thanks!
