Really? I know many women who are touched and loved that their husbands asked for the blessing. (Note that it's not permission but blessing)
Never heard a single woman put off by this. I am sure that there are some out there but I have only heard positive things from them and they were impressed that their then boyfriend went and asked for the blessing even if it was just symbolic. And this is over the past 5 years as well so it's not like I am talking about women in the past.
