Running a 10k on Thanksgiving. Any advice and pacing strategies would be appreciated. What does it feel like to race a 10k? Going for 40-41 minutes. I'm 16 years old.

Don't worry if at the start you are a little too fast, just make sure to get back on-pace as you hit the mile.
When I ran it on a track, I just made sure to stay as relaxed as possible. I just stared at the back of the person ahead of me and the next thing I knew I had 8 laps to go and was feeling pretty good, so I started moving.
I know people say the 10k sucks and is terrible, but it really isn't. It's like 4 miles of tempoing and then 2 miles of racing.
Yes, I agree with that analogy 4/2. Aim for even running. Dont go out like its a 5k or you will suffer like a dog for the second half (or end up jogging it in).
I would think OP could go out in 6:30, hold that, and pick it up slightly the last mile. Might break 40.
Trying to bank time early is a strategy that never works for me unless its downhill early.
