Fast 8th grade girl times are not as impressive as fast 8th grade boy times because more girls peak in 8th grade than boys do
you're not wrong but its still interesting to keep track of and keep fingers crossed.
8th grade is like 13 years old, 18:11 is not anything to be excited about, you can go to your local turkey trot and see 12, 11 and yes, even 10 year old girls running faster than that. As everyone knows, Grace Ping holds the single age WR for 13 year old girls in the 5K at 16:36. All the single age WRs down to age 9 (17:53.2) are lower than 18:11.

people are posting 8th grade boys in here running in the mid to high 17's. It's not that deep.

Bumblebee was excited about an 8th grade girl running 18:11 and that is what I responded to. Learn to read.
Holding a grudge on your parents and coach is not healthy. You could bear some of the blame for burning out. There are great age group stars like Athing Mu, Cooper Teare, Cory McGee, Katelyn Tuohy, Mary Slaney, Jakob Ingribrigtsen, Niels Lagos.. list goes on and on and on.
what about:
- Blake Haney
- Darren Fahy
- Ryan Silva
- Blair Hurlock
- Elias Gedyon
- Lukas Verzbicas
- German Fernandez
All peaked in high school/early college.
Grant Fisher is an anomaly from the group of youth stars (he was already the best in high school - Footlocker XC)
It is very, very, very difficult to become a world class runner no matter what and there are many, many, many more people who can be considered middle school/high school stars than could possibly be a world class runner. It is unlikely for a middle school/high school star to become a world class runner but it’s much more unlikely for someone who wasn’t a star then to become one. And some people just have physical ceilings no matter what, doesn’t matter if they hit them at 16 years old or 25 years old. If your peak is a 3:38 1500, is it really worse to hit that in high school and get to be a superstar and not improve versus slowly improving and hitting that same time a decade later while still being on the fringe of the professional scene at best, never having been elite?

Agreed. The bias on Letsrun against fast American middle schoolers is weird. It’s cool when kids are fast. Some will be fast adults. Some won’t. Why do people need to be negative about it instead of celebrating current accomplishments and hoping for positive futures?

OK pal. How come I've never seen one in 30+years of going to Turkey trots?
18:11 would be a top 20 HS runner in many states. The fact that there are a few wild outliers does not change the fact that an 18:11 girl is a 1%-er. At worst.

If they arent impressed with her 18:11 (now second technically) than I would cite her 10:15 3K xc time which is probably more impressive and since middle schoolers in North Carolina run mostly 3Ks its a better indicator. But it was her 4:56 mile as a 7th grader that really caught everyones eye initially. And of course Annabella Tomasic is coming for all of them next year. Fastest kid in Florida including high schoolers. And F anyone who says no one should care about middle school girls running fast only boys.

Tomasic is great, a huge engine. Only flag is her form. Very forced and a shuffler. But that worked for Hutchins so can work for her.. will keep following her!

Anyone know how old she is though? The problem with rating by grade is that it's not standardized by age at all. In my area, kids in the bordering state and even bordering towns to mine have kids in 8th grade that would be in 9th grade where I live based on birth year.

Need to account for physically maturity especially in boys as well. I seen some 15 year olds that look like 6 graders and 6 graders that look like college kids.

Good example of this was Nike Indoor middle school last year.

Yes, Elliott McArthur (MN) ran a 4:22 in the 1600 in 8th grade (2019), and ran at NXN with his team as an 8th grader, and was the top 8th grader in the state, but as a senior he was not in the top 10 at the state meet. He looked like a college student in 8th grade.

you're right that he's one of the biggest examples of this recently but to clarify he was 5th at states in the 1600 and 2nd in the 800 last year
