CU says they are trying to be the best CU team in history. If they accomplish this isn't it arguable they will be one of the best teams overall in NCAA history. What other teams would be better?

UTEP during the late 70s and early 80s.
Either those UTEP schools or Stanford 2003.

2, 3, 4, 5, 10 for a team score of 24.
Hard to believe the Buffs touch that. I am a CU album but it just takes too many things going right to do any better than the Tree oh Three.
I think that there have been better CU teams to start the year, too. They just ended up having one or more guys get injured during the year. If these guys can all stay healthy, they'll be the best CU team at nationals, probably, but there were some Vaughn / Schoolmeester teams and the Goucher / Batliner team that got derailed by injuries or tragedy.
eligibility rules were different in the UTEP era. Tough to argue against Stanford '03 as "modern era" best.

The 1981 team all seven in the top 20.

agree, completely dominant win. they went 2,3,4,5,10,11,26.. top 5 for 24 points 2nd place was Wisco in 174 points, you can throw out their top 2 runners and use their 6 and 7 runners for a score of 56 which still wins by 118 points... honestly it was incredible to watch.
Arkansas 1993 was pretty good
Are you talking all of NCAA or Just DI? If All of NCAA, I would make an argument for the Adams State team that went 1-5 at Nationals on November 21, 1992.
Pretty good, obviously the UTEP team in the late 70's and early 80's and some of the Oregon teams of that era were much stronger.
Castillo, Delacerda, Brooks, Stoneham and Mohr v
Bunston, Bruton, Mitchell, Baker and Morin
I'd go with Arkansas

I too would make the argument that the 1992 Adams State team would have been dismantled by the aforementioned UTEP and Stanford teams.
'70s and early '80s

I'd agree with the UTEP...notice they were all foreigners, not there's anything wrong with that. My old high school coach grew up like three blocks from UTEP and saw those guys run by all the time. I'd say the '03 Stanford team put on a show in the 'modern' era. But in terms of sheer prowess/talent, some of those Arkansas teams were loaded to bear...didn't they win about 10 titles under McDonnell?
That 2003 race had a lot of good runners in it, although some were pretty young at the time. Ritz, Hall, Dobson, Cragg, Bairu, Don Sage, Solinsky, Tim Nelson, Brannen, Willis, Lukezic, Brian Olinger, Rob Myers

What rule violations disqualified UTEP in the 80s that one year?
Wisconsin 2005. Solinski, Teg, Bairu. They crushed NCAAs that year.
One interesting thing about the 1993 team
Bruton - NCAA track champion (more than once)
Baker - NCAA track champion
Bunston NCAA track champion (more than once)
Mitchell - NCAA track champion
Plus, they left Graham Hood (Olympic finalist and multiple NCAA Champion) at home (and probably some sub 4:00 milers I can't remember)
One UTEP team had 3 27:3X guys AND Sulemein Nyambui, plus some other very fast dudes. How can they NOT be the best team of all time?
Best NCAA team in history?
Maybe one of the UCLA basketball teams in the '60s.

That UCLA team, led most of the time by Bill Walton, won 88 straight games.
The year that UTEP put up an ungodly low number of points at nats and wisco was 2nd, UTEP had the title stripped b/c of eligibility issues. Can we consider a team like that as the "best" in ncaa history?
I know D3 won't get much, if any, respect in this thread but in 1993 North Central College put up 32 points at nats going 1, 2, 5, 6, 25, 34, 47 (1, 2, 5, 6, 18, 26, 36 team score) putting 5 guys ahead of runner up la crosse's (123 team points) 2 man. That's pretty impressive.
