Ah ok fair enough, I didn't see that, need to have a closer look

Was revisiting some of the info I'd gathered in this discussion last month, went back to look at the global temperature anomaly data. Discovered the HADCRUT 4 data are no longer available in the format I grabbed them in mid-October. Back then the global time series was based on (NH+SH)/2. Now it's (2NH+SH)/3.
Anybody know what that's all about?
I have a rather large penis that makes it very difficult to run
Pretty much anyone who is rational and has a modicum of scientific education believes in global warming. The disagreement is over what, if any, is the human contribution to the process and whether any of the major climate computer models are reliable in predicting the process. The last stat I saw was that some survey had shown that 97% of the current computer models have predicted greater warming than the actual data have shown. This might indicate that too many climate scientists are developing their models with a bias to show warming. Sadly, this area of science has been substantially corrupted by politics.

You're probably not looking at the same data set as you were previously.
(2NH+SH)/3 is for global "land-only" temperature anomaly, consistent with the fact that there is about twice as much land area in the northern hemisphere.
The global "land plus sea" temperature anomaly is (NH+SH)/2 as it has always been.

Thanks, on further hunting I found it.
I came across a very interesting read over the weekend. Today, we take for granted that the "hockey stick" chart has been discredited, but I wasn't aware of some of the behind the scenes shenanigans to squeeze it into the 4th IPCC report. This article explains how scientists stonewalled requests for replication data.
the IPCC needed to have the Wahl and Amman papers in the report so that they could continue to use the hockey stick, with its frightening and unprecedented uptick in temperatures. Mountains were going to be moved to keep the papers in play.
Basically, they rigged the report to get the data they wanted AND got the paper into the 4th IPCC report long after the reporting deadline had passed by citing their own REJECTED paper as a source.
All of this took place before Climategate, but it should leave no doubt to the objective third party that these AGW guys at the very top (CRU, Mann, Wall, Amman, etc.) were manipulating data to get the outcomes they wanted.
Again, interesting reading and written so the layman can understand it.
