As in when your quads are sore, does swimming allow you to recover more quickly?
I treat swimming as a cure-all agent for any sort of recovery. It's low-impact exercise that stretches muscles at the same time. You're not overloading any of the muscles b/c it's just a light resistance workout. I've been nursing lower leg injuries for the past 6-10 months (all independent of each other), and swimming definitely helps maintain flexibility while flushing out lactic acid.
And no, I didn't stay at a holiday inn express last night. I was a club swimmer for 10 years
