She has broken 15. Folks seem to be vastly overestimating her 3k ability, however. Her PR is 8:48/8:42i.

That is a very fast time and I am not sure she is capable even at her best. Late in the year like this, past her peak, she will not get close. 8:30 at very very best, maybe 8:35. Would not be all too surprised to see her try to hang with the leaders, blow a gasket, and go slower than 8:40.

She is also probably going to have a bit of a letdown from just having pulled off an unlikely scenario, winning the DL. Mental letdown, knowing vacation time is coming. Hard to believe she could pull a rabbit out of the hat in this race. But she is a great competitor. You never know.

Oh, you meant "before now" as in "not yet today" or possibly "not so far this week or this year." Sorry to misinterpret you and I'll get to work on my moral and language issues.

It's going to be very hard. Simpson will be competing with the Africans and Rowbury so she'll have her hands full. Almost impossible to run for time AND place. Unless the pack decides to go with the pacers it will probably be tactical with a speedup the last k.

Slaney was a frontrunner who did not like running in packs so she would take off from the gun making it much easier for her to run fast times. Simpson and Rowbury have it much tougher.

Shannon will break the AR tomorrow - 8:25.44

Will Jenny hang in there - of that I am not sure. I think she will be in it but will fall short of it and Shannon will take down this one as a culmination to a breakthrough season for her.

It may be a long time before the record gets broken. It's pretty clear from today that Rowbury and Simpson both might be in shape to do it - but fighting the scrum in a DL race costs them at the least several seconds. So it probably won't happen in a Diamond League race, and there appear to be no opportunities otherwise. They need something closer to a time trial with a rabbit and nothing like that is scheduled. Longer term you have to consider that Rowbury is probably near her career peak this year, while Simpson has a couple of good years left. But the next three years are World's, Olympics and World's - they'll be totally focused on the 1500 (or possibly but unlikely, the 5000 in Rowbury's case). The 3k just isn't run that often. We might have to wait for Cain/Efraimson to take their shot at it, which could mean 5 or more years. It might be nice for our national and world class runners if USATF staged an end of the year non-championship meet with rabbits. The meet could have a flexible format and provide an end point and showcase for US track and field focused on giving US athletes an opportunity to improve their personal bests for the year.

This years\'s Diamond league for women had four 3000s, one 2 mile, and two 5000s. I\'m pretty sure there will be some fast 3000s in the next several years for JS & SR to take a crack at the record. They performed pretty well tonight against some woman who ran sub 8:25 in the Doha 3K earlier this year
