lots of big pharmaceutical companies in Switzerland. Maybe she's looking for a product sponsor.
And she will get a match up with the Ethio junior champ Dawit Seyaum.

if she is top half that would be a great day and no doubt a huge pr.

Seems about right, although that's such a strong field that it's possible 4:02 is more like 10th.
Two "races within the race" to make things interesting: "Cain vs Seyaum" and "Cain vs the other Americans (Simpson/Rowbury)".
If she can pull off one "win" in those competitions, she will probably have a very good race.
Wonder whether there had to be some negotiations behind the scenes to get her into the race. Being World Junior champ at 3000m probably helped.
Assume Phoebe Wright will rabbit.
No PR here. She will choke, and with 200 to go snap out of it and make a move that is not significant. Heard it here first.
so if you were train's coach, what you tell her to do? run her own race or frontrun or what?
I think it wouldn't be crazy to tell her to go to the front - jenny simpson and emma coburn's frontruning have been revelatory this year - the way to beat the africans is to go to the front and have the step on them rather than let them have the step on you.
No, Cain is not going to run 3:58 and win...but I'm thinking getting out front would teach her more than sitting in the back, getting spiked and pushed around and boxed in until the last 300.
Why do these DL races keep getting Phoebe Wright as a pacer? I cannot remember a single race where she has led the field through the 800m in what was asked, and generally it comes in the form of a way too hot early pace, followed by a ridiculous positive split.
Cain should run her own race, and NOT go to the front unless the pace is lagging and she can do it easily. The best plan is to run her fastest pace from the start to the finish.
Why isn't Jordan HASAY? Could she not threaten 4:00 with good pacing?
Cain is not running Zurich. I know for a fact.

All right, maybe you have better info than the entry list. Seems as though it would require a certain amount of effort to get her into the DL final; she has the slowest PB of anyone except the rabbit.
So if she's not going to run, that would call for some kind of explanation
DNS
Phoebe was the pacer in Cain's 4:04, doing exactly as asked.
If they're going for 3:56 or so, then 63's (2:06, 3:09) is good pacing.
As for Mary, Salazar has said she can go sub-4. With 6 or 7 of them having run under 4 this year, I expect a very fast race. If for no other reason than that Jenny wants Slaney's record.
I'm predicting she'll be in the thick of it, with a sub-4 a distinct possibility!
Let me add that Cain has made major improvements in her PR from her Freshman HS year on.
4:17 ('11), 4:11 ('12), to 4:04 ('13).
If she improves by 6 or 7 seconds again this year, we're talking a 3:57 or 3:58!!
I don't think that Salazar would have her in this race at this time of year, with school starting, if he did not think that she were ready to go sub 4. And usually, he is right on the money with his expectations for time when he has his athletes running for pr's and time barriers. This is a great, great field, and usually Zurich races are not disappointing. With Simpson in the field, the pace is hardly likely to lag, so the times should be very fast. American record for Simpson, 3:56.7, and sub-4 hs/Ajr for Cain at 3:59.3. The latter showed she was very sharp at World Juniors and she is surely in better 1500m shape now. Too bad Salazar hasn't been able to get Rupp or Farah into a fast 3k or 5k.

You are actually going to have Cain trying to stay in front of Aregawi and Hasan, with a PR 10 seconds slower than them? Seriously?
It is one thing if you're Simpson, with this year's best time faster than Aregawi and almost as fast as Hasan to go to the front--and I suspect she will be running for Slaney's AR and will get it--but for Mary to do that would be suicide.
There will be a range of athletes in the race. Mary needs to hang with as fast of a pace as she can handle and get used to kicking off a faster pace. But it needs to be a pace she can handle, and not die form.
This is everything wrong with Diamond League in a nutshell. Cain is ranked 45th for the year in the 1500. Even if she'd run her PR time this year she would still be only 26th. She has earned no diamond league points. And the Stockholm 1500 hasn't even been run yet.
In what sense is Zurich the "final" if there are entrants who did not qualify? Surely there is someone with a better season's best than Cain who would compete if given the chance. Probably ten or twenty at least.
I don't care if Cain is good for a junior. If she's not good enough to win DL points, she has no business bumping anyone with a better chance. It's foul nepotism.
If I were in Zurich, I would jeer and hold up a big anti-Nike sign at the end of the 1st turn where the camera would pan past it lots of times.
