I disagree with those saying only people obsessed with facts and trivia would know such things. Every single beverage you purchase in the US says how many ounces it is. Every single prepackaged beverage has Nutrition Facts on the backside that says what the serving size is, which is typically 8 ounces (1 cup). Every single recipe intended for use in the US will have both cups and ounces on it. Anyone who has ever used a measuring cup is going to see ounces and cup (and likely pints). Do people really order a "pint" of beer without ever thinking about what a "pint" is? The guy thought a pint was four cups. This stuff isn't trivia. It's common knowledge. It's like not knowing green lights mean go and red lights mean stop. You see this stuff every freakin day.
