Here's the current Brussels program. Steeple and 1500 for the men, but nothing longer. Nothing longer than a flat 3000 for the women.

Like I said; great.
This is the way to make athletics meets shorter, more spectaculair and fit for tv.
Running is for roads, racing is for track.
Its a budget issue , not enough appearance to draw the big guys and we are headed into peak marathoning training time for fall marathons where the distance elites make the big money. No reason to run a 10k for small money and a ranking.

It's sad. The 10k is the ultimate distance race. It combines both speed (lacking in the marathon) and endurance (lacking in the 5k). I'd rather watch a world-class 10k over any race.
What's the most exciting distance race ever? Answer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkbazvD055oEvery time I watch that I still hope Tergat somehow holds on.
And yeah, it's the money as well as the unattainable WR which leads more to the marathon and half- circuit.

Agreed, it's sad to see so many hating on the 10,000M. It's a great event. I'd sign a petition to keep it around.

Trying too hard/10
maybe this will help kill the 10k as an wc/OG event and bring in a xc race instead
although in these days of bloated OGs I suspect the chance of a new event/venue is approximately zero
get rid of that stupid trampoline gymnastics travesty, race walking, 10,000m and golf
that should clear things up

I agree. The London 10000, even though it was tactical, was the highlight of the 2012 Games. The 1500-mile have gotten boring. Either a flukey sit for 65 sec laps then blazing kick or rabbited time trials. The 5000 is a good event, but I really like a good 10 with all its strategy and pacing.

Time for some enterprising Americans to organize an impromptu 10k race under the lights stateside! Who's with me?
Seriously- have a community road race (5K) that ends at the stadium where the 10K will be then run the 10K and "encourage" the road racers to stay and watch.
If it's big enough it can be billed at a shot at the A standard.
The shorter road races used to be more popular. Top runners raced 10k and 15k. Now not so much. Maybe the distance guys could make more money if they were racing on the roads. There'd be more races and road races often have more money because it's a one event meet, so to speak.
rupp will almost certainly be the first american since bruce bickford to be ranked #1
next year will be better for the 10000 as runners will need to run the standard, which was 27:40 last time to get in the world champs.

Mark Nenow was the first american since bickford to be ranked #1. He set the american record. Let's not forget him.
Nenow was not ranked #1.
You wankers in your mommy's basement do not understand what ranking is.

I meant world leader and read his post as that.
Of course I know what a ranking is.
Nope, you only know what wanking is.
T&F is doing just fine, thank you, says the head of USATF...can you imagine a track meet where they cancelled the 100m because of lack of interest? Back to the dark ages we are headed...
Why not run the half marathon in addition during the Olympics?
Seriously why not, right?

Yeah it's the way to put the nail in the coffin.
Now no actual runners will watch track & field anymore.
