Looks like Rupp is a virtual lock for the world leader now.
It will be the first time an American has been the world leader at the 10,000m since Mark Nenow ran 27:20 in 1986 (28 years ago).

Kenny put the record so out of reach that no one wants to bother with it anymore. Folks are just going to straight to the marathon.

He did the same thing in the 5k.
Very sad about this. I poured my guts out over this a couple minutes ago on the MO WINS EURO 10K thread.
This was to be Chris Derrick's big track race of the season.
He & Bowerman Track Club may have something to say about this on their twitter feeds.
Only two more Diamond League 5k races left, don't know if it's too late to get into one of those or if he would even be accepted.
He may have to find a road race in September to point towards before shutting down for the summer.

Solinsky almost had it in 2010 until Josphat Kiprono Menjo solo'd a 26:56 in Finland. Second place in that race was 31min IIRC.
Brussels didn't have a 10000m last year either. Schumacher and Derrick should have seen this coming and made sure to get the A standard at either Stanford or the Pre meet.
The 10000m is the one track event in which athletes are given an extra year to get the A standard and Americans have virtually wasted the opportunity.
22 athletes got the 10000m A standard this year; 17 of them got it on American soil. But the only American to get it is Rupp.
Time for some enterprising Americans to organize an impromptu 10k race under the lights stateside! Who's with me?
Track meets with only one or two races only work for the mile / 800.

But are they adding a race in its place? They didn't have a 5000M race last time I checked. Are they adding that?

Everything over 3k has no place on a track. It takes to long, it's boring as hell and the people who are running look like they've been without food for 3 months.
Since the sport of track is struggling to make ends meet and get some tv time, IAAF and organizers should clean up the sport. Out with the long distances, triple jump and the hammer. Running is for roads, triple jump adds nothing to what we already see in the long-/highjump and the jav, shot and discus cover everything there is to cover in the throws.
Time to start with athletics part II. We're not in the 60's anymore.
If there are to be fewer 10ks on the track then what we need are more championship road or cross country races. The Olympics should include a half marathon on the road and some kind of cross-country event with some hills.
The reason so many of them go straight to marathon is more about money. They know they can win big when they go to the roads
