a single 10 mile run vs 2 individual 5 mile runs?
The 2 5 mile runs can be done on the same day or on two consecutive days.

A single 10 mile run done on consecutive days.
5 2 mile runs is the best.
I think both would be effective if used together. But if you had to do one or the other i would lean towards the sing 10 mile run simply because because it is more continuous time on your legs, making them stronger

Dunno about that list bit mate. I commute by foot with two 4.5 mi runs and I've had the best response from this style of training than single long stuff which I've also done before. I find it is also easy to scale up to longer distances too because my legs are strong from this style of training.
Do a 10 mile run and a 5 mile run. Good lord. Quit trying to take the easy way out.

you're not answering my question.... pointless answer. Thanks to everyone else above.
yeah i understand, i probably worded it wrong. longer running espeically over 90 minutes improves the function of Mitochondria which produces energy to the ATP cells. without this you can't improve muscular strength through faster efforts as efficiently. thats why i said they should be used together. I'm no scientist so most that may be wrong, but that is my understanding of it all
2 x 5 miles

ALL exercise triggers mitochondrial bio-genesis, nothing special happens at 90 minutes.
If you're training for the 10k you shouldn't even be thinking about doubling to 10 miles...
two 10 mile runs on the same day.
You can just take all the guess work out and do an AM 5 miler and a PM 10 miler.
10 mile steady run one day. Two easy 5 milers the next day. Rinse repeat.
