that's pretty good considering he had another solo run of 1'43.96i = 1'42.49 in his legs from 2/7 before
good point. Consider the difference of times of athletes in similar shapes indoor and outdoor. I took some examples:
Borza - 1:44.15 - 1:42.47 -> ~1.68 faster outdoor
Aman - 1:44.52 - 1:42.37 -> ~2.15 faster outdoor
Paul Ereng - 1:44.88 - 1:43.16 -> ~1.72 faster outdoor
Bungei - 1:44.97 - 1:42.34 -> ~2.63 faster outdoor
Johnny Gray - 1:45.08 - 1:42.60 -> 2.48 faster outdoor
Kaki - 1:45.02 - 1:42.23 -> 2.79 faster outdoor
Barbosa - 1:43.87 -1:45.43 -> 1.56 faster outdoor
Lewandowski - 1:45.41 - 1.43.79 -> 1.62 faster outdoor
Obviously some athletes are proportionally better indoor than others, like Barbosa (world indoor champion), Lewandowski, Borza.
So what you are saying is that Kipketer 1:42.67 indoor would be the equivalent of 1:41.22, yet that's just 1.45 faster. I don't think its equivalent is under 1:40, but i do believe it's better than Rudisha's 1:40.9.
He was capable of producing that result. He has run 1:41.24 passing the first lap in ~48.4, running high 52 for second lap. Had he gone slower in about ~49.2 I guess many people would disagree he would still own the 800m WR, running a ~1:40.6 - 1:40.7 that day.
and his indoor 1:42.67 worths around that as well.
