Please don't ever offer me a coffee. I would rather drink my cat's piss than drink an espresso made from a peasant's machine. If you want good coffee then budget should not be a consideration.

Definitely
I love reading threads and then realizing SOMEONE searched for a 4 year old thread and actually commented. Therefore, I must now comment. I get caught in these scenarios all the time.
Also, big coffee drinker here. Not espresso, but can definitely appreciate the bigtime nerding out over it.
Only $500.
A friend of mine just upgraded to a $3000 machine.
If you love coffee that much, I am sure it's a good investment.
I am happy with my old Ohio build Mr. Coffee machine. It works and make hot black stuff.
My rule of thumb is, buy the best stuff you can afford for the things you enjoy the most. Especially for things you use on a daily basis. The investment vs happiness factor is huge.
I have such a good Breville system at work that espresso any where else is usually a disappointment.
I am considering bringing it on long driving trips despite how big it is.
No. It would be a worthless and stupid thing to get.

I don't understand this comment. Starbucks may not be a coffee connoisseur's choice, but Coffee Bean is undrinkable. It's like saying, "Frankly, I prefer the drip coffee at Chevron."
May said she had "done [her] best" to respect the EU choice outcome, and that is involved "profound lament" that she had been unfit to convey Brexit. May has been constrained out after her express inability to win local help for an arrangement she hit with the European Union to permit the U.K. to leave the coalition in a generally consistent manner.
I work at a large well known social media company. We have the very best coffee machine in our department that money can buy.
It has a "Do not use" post it note on it more days than it is in use meaning it breaks all the time. Usually works for a couple of days before crapping out.
The one upstairs, however l, is less expensive (still in the thousands) never skips a beat. Makes espresso, steamed milk, latte, cappuccino and a number of other programmed coffee drinks.
Are they worth it? Multiple views:
- health: overall no
- digestion: yes
- teeth: no
- coffee for multiple drinkers: yes
Just like anything read the reviews before your purchase.
Yes. Bought one 20 years ago, and it's still going strong. We use it 5 or 6 days a week, and it does multiple espressos daily. Not that we would have stopped for one on the way to work regardless, but do the math.

What are you at?
Say double shot of espresso plus whatever crap you put on it is $5.75 at starbucks. How much do you undercut?
Damn you guys are pros.
I love my $15 moka pot filled with Cafe La Llave or Cafe Bustelo.
Works great to wake me up, tastes amazing, and gives me giant dumps before running??
$500? I have friends they have a $2000 coffee machine and I think there is still a lot more expensive ones out there.
If you stop going to Starbucks you have earned that money back in no time.
My motto in life is, that you should spend your money where your passion is. If you really appreciate good coffee, I see no reason not to invest in a fancy coffee machine. Other people spend a lot of money for cars. They depreciate a lot faster than your coffee machine ever will.
Sure, if you have the money why not.
A friend of mine has a $2500 coffee maker at home.
It's all about priorities.
While I am happy with my old Ohio made coffee machine I would spend this kind of money for something I truly love.
Again, if you have the money. Don't buy this on a small monthly payment.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good, reliable set up. I have a mid-grade Gastroback (German Breville, basically) semi automatic and a burr grinder, all bought for around 650€. Both are refurbished, but I’ve never had a problem with either. So the equipment isn’t out of reach... but good beans are another story. They are consistently expensive, and you have to find a roaster that has the flavour profile you’re looking for. Then pony up 6-12€ for a 250 g bag of beans. Crap beans from the grocery store won’t be fresh, won’t give you crema, and will usually taste bitter.
Would you rather have a $500 espresso machine or $500?
Yes! I have a couple friends that have really expensive ones and I go to their house just for the coffee.
