I am bringing a group of runners to Boulder next April and someone has told me that the University has stopped the use of the track by non university runners. Any info ?
I have not been since 1998. Are trails and running areas still the same?

You'll have to train elsewhere, and locals can be found at Fairview High School, because the track access is restricted by CU. Trails are the same, as Boulder is permanently protected open space surrounding a pretty college town.
Here are the regulations for using CU's track.

I'd use Fairview's track as well. Softer surface, accessible much of the day when the school is not using it.
Boulder High School just off of Broadway near CU Campus has a newly surfaced track too. I'm not sure what their rules are but I ran there several times this summer without hassle.Fairview was also great.

Why bring kids to Boulder? There are so many better places to go. You're just feeding the egos by visiting there.
Yes, Plano Texas or Newark, NJ would be much more scenic.
Thanks for info: Not bringing kids for ego trips. Been there before a few times with great results.
Where are you bringing these kids from? What are the ages? And what results did you previously have?
Ages 25 + : Best of which 7-59 3k and 3-39 1500
Previous results include Barry Smith 13-56 to 13-24 5k a month later:
Charlie Spedding: 28-42 to 28-11 a month later:
That was obviously many years ago:
In last visit Michael Openshaw 4-03 mile to 3-57 and Mike Morris 1-54 to 1-50 800 and 3-51 1500 to 3-44
Sorry: From England: Youngest is 23 not 25 - he is the one with 3-39: 7-59 times
Ok, thanks. I was curious because never heard of those athletes in the U.S.
Are these National Team members?
Nick McCormack 4th in Olympic 1500 Trial: Morag McDonnell has ran for England road track and country: Just missed out on World X team.
When will you be in Boulder? Are you the coach?
In April: I am coach
This is facinating. So this trip to Boulder will be a training camp to prepare for your national championships?
For Nick MCcormack yes: Others will be aiming to improve all round times on road and track. Group is of mixed standards
How did these athletes qualify for this trip? Are they all members of the same team (club)?
I would be interested in finding out more about this. I am a former Boulder resident. Could I email you for more information?
No such luck: The group is not funded: We are paying our own way: I organise sessions for a large group of runners back here - all standards - sometimes 40 runners ,but I dont coach all of them and other coaches are involved. The group coming out consists of 7 of these - not all coached by me but I will be handling training whilst we are there.
i'd imagine that if you contacted the CU track office you might be able to talk them into letting you use the track
I went to the Boulder 10k with the GB team this year and we ran on the Fairview track after a failed attempt at getting on the CU track. The track was fine and we were pretty much alone. It is an unsightly black with long straights, but times seemed to be good for the altitude. Don't think you'll have a problem getting on there. As for steady running there are plenty of trails, but you can't avoid the hills!
