Dumb take by Lyles. If he did research, he’d know about the effects of altitude, as well as the complicated nature of 10K qualifying. Right now we are hosting our own 10K trials where because it’ll be run in the heat and with no pacers we might end out setting our B (Henes) or C type (Hurley) options. Or we might send only 2 athletes.
Kenyas notice was too short, but otherwise they will send a team in a meritocratic, thought-out way. And Ebenyo sorted it out, so out-of-date take too.
I understand the confusion, but it literally has nothing to do with him in anyway. Their race isn't negatively impacting any aspect of his own as it happens way before his race, if anything, it may raise interest in the event overall since there will now be 2 additional world class races happening.
Now if they were instead doing their 100m trials here and bumping around his own race start time, or putting him in a heat with like 5-6 Kenyan guys with 0 shot of winning or even just making him run heats in general to make Pre Finals, he'd be justified in questioning Pre organizer's actions.
This is true, but they could have hosted somewhere in Europe like ethiopia does and they would achieve the same thing without requiring their athletes to fly halfway across the world and a completely different time Zone

East to West travel has little jet lag.
Having the Kenyan trials here doesn't involve Noah at all.

Huh???
Our Trials are done in sub-ideal conditions and do not set up our athletes to hit the qualifying standards. Don’t understand the confusion. It promotes “racing” but with no reallocation it also promotes teams of under 3 and not the top 3 getting in necessarily.

(1) The US could run the Trials in May (like the Kenyans are doing), or even January😳 if you think the heat is a problem…or run them in Minnesota, for that matter.

(2) How does Hurley make the team??
That’s what I’m proposing! Cross country points unless I’m saying the wrong person,
If you did your research, you'd know that Ethiopia has low altitude places to run but this approach gets maximum participation from the athletes because it means that they don't miss lucrative opportunities to run on the circuit in order to fly back to their country during the prime season. The answer would be to have the IAAF block out a section of the season from pro meets for national trials, just as they block out the championship period every year.
"Its lowest point, the Danakil Depression is 125 meters below sea level while its highest elevation, the Ras Dashen is 4,620 meters above sea level."
If this is about Kenya, rather than Ethiopia, this time, the same applies. They could run, for instance, in Mombasa along the Indian Ocean.
"The lowest point in Kenya is on the Indian Ocean at 0° while the highest point is on Mt. Kenya which is 5,199 meters above Sea level. Kenya is located in the East African region of Africa."
The cross-country means to qualification for the 10k is a totally different issue that doesnt’t seem relevant to his point, and maybe you meant Izzo instead of Hurley?
Having the Trials in Minnesota instead of Eugene would probably be a perpetual thing if Nike HQ was in Minnesota.

Sea level areas in Ethiopia and Kenya are very hot and humid. Nasty conditions.
Exactly. Call me chauvanistic or jingoistic or whatever. But why are we using a high profile domestic race to host the Kenyan Olympic qualifier? And it is not as if Kenyan athletics has a record of integrity that makes the results remotely interesting.

Dumb take. The Danakil depression is in a desert. A race in Mombasa or elsewhere at sea level in Kenya or Ethiopia right now would be almost as bad as racing in Florida right now.

This is let's run your going to get a lot of "Huh" moments when you read some of the stuff people post here. lol!

So yeah that’s who I meant but Kenya is essentially ensuring they have all their best runners and the top 3 are the team. I don’t find it a separate issue because the US Trials system doesn’t worry about delivering a race that will ensure the top 3 get in. It might’ve cost us an entrant in the marathon, and it might cost us one here if we send a non-top 3 finisher or two. Kenya looks like they will pace their men’s race which will ensure the auto selection spot are filled.

Looking at the US women’s rankings, it seems Top 3 is still required to make the team. I don’t think they would send Izzo (in place of a top 3 finisher) if she wasn’t one of the top 3.

Say what? It's a 10 hour time difference. May as well be going west to east. There is definitely jet lag.
Not too mention fatigue from the travel itself. Shortest flight time from Nairobi to Portland is 22 hours. That's assuming you're already in Nairobi and not hours away in Eldoret or somewhere else. Then you've still gotta get to Eugene.
