NE-10 XC Athletes and Rookies Announced Yesterday
http://northeast10.org/sports/xc/2014-15/playerofweek/XC_Week_1.pdfNo issue with guys selection for Co - Athlete of the Week between Fiermonte (Assumption ) and Filippazzo(Adelphi) or Girls Athlete being Strong from LeMoyne, but thought that they could have done a better job with Rookie selections.
Picked runners who did not even run either a full 5K(Girls) or an 8K(Guys) in their first college race? Huh?...
This is something I've complained about for well over a decade when it comes to who the conference recognizes as RoW (Runner of the Week or Rookie of the Week). In the big picture, it's a small thing, but it comes down to having the respect to know a little bit about the sport if you're going to be in a position where you're going to be deciding who gets thee honors. I can't tell you how many times the conference has done something like give RoW to a woman who runs 16:xx for 4k when somebody else runs 19:xx for 5k. How does that make any sense? In this case Strong of Lemoyne ran a good time for 4k, but to me Boutelle of St Mike's, by winning the Shacklette same as Fierimonte did, on a tough course and in brutal conditions, that's a strong case for Co-RoW honors same as they did with the men.
So minor in the big picture, it just bugs me when those in the position to recognize the performances of our student-athletes don't understand the sport.
