Hi, so my XC season starts in August, and I did a 5K today just to see what I could get. This is my second year running XC
I got 20:1X on a 5k road race with a few steep hills but mostly flat, with decent weather (70 degrees, sunny). During the race I felt ok until the 3rd mile, when my stomach started hurting and I had to slow down. I was on pace with a guy who ran 19:03 until ~1.5 miles in, so that's how I know I slowed down a lot.
I plan on running 45-50 miles a week by the time the season starts.
If everything turns out well what could I peak at for the 5K? Is 18:30 possible on a grassy, relatively flat course by September/October?
