Another great reason to love Wisconsin.
Another great reason to love Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's a cool place. There's definitely a distinct culture there that's extroverted and distinct. As an east coast resident, we see it as a faraway place where people are robust, the weather is cold but everything seems to work. The upper midwest states (MN, WI) seem to be more desirable in general than the rest of flyover country.
Hmm that might have been true 7 years or so ago, but Wisco is far from a progressive state now-a-days. Minnesota is where to go if you want booming business and jobs. In Wisconsin over the past 5 years, education was cut in places and while I'm not really familiar with what goes on in Milwaukee, I've heard people calling it a rust belt city for well over 10 years now. There is good and bad. Madison is a college town and if you're in the medical research or academic field at a higher level, then it can be seen as an ideal city to relocate. Keep in mind that its fairly small though and the 250k population might leave you feeling claustrophobic if you're used to Boston or New York. It seems like Wisconsin would be ideal if you're looking to start your own business as I've heard that its cheaper to setup shop here compared to Illinois when it comes to taxes and all. If you're into buying nice clothes then you're going to have a rough time. Sure there are outlet malls scattered all around, but unless you take a day trip out of state you're going to be limited to department stores for things to buy. Another problem is a total lack of night life. Sure both major areas have performing arts and music venues like the Orpheum and the Eagles Ballroom, but there really isn't too much to do in between. Most small cities and towns only have sports bars and if there is a dance or music themed club, they become so rowdy that they get shutdown after being in business for only a short while.
Honestly, unless your whole social circle is looking to relocate to Wisconsin, then I would hazard against a relocation. Like any other place Wisconsin has its pros and cons and its not a terrible place to live but it can make you soft and lazy if you're not careful.

Yeah, I took a huge, dump in one. No one noticed.
Wisconsin is very tribal. It takes itself very seriously, but honestly people are kinda dumb all around. Maybe a little less dumb in Madison, but still think an awful lot of themselves. Milwaukee is a pit with drunks, drugs and bad drivers. Weather is awful. A lot of people don't wanna stay here, so when looking for a job they will be more interested in your willingness to stay than your education or your ability to actually do the job. People expect you to be ridiculously friendly, so if you're having intercourse with someone I the state it helps since it would actually give you a reason to be so friendly. Personally, I would sooner move to Disney World. Not only are they super friendly, but they also have their sh t together. Yeah, Wisconsin sucks. And I've lived a lot of places. Calcutta is the only worse place I can think of - but the weather in Calcutta is better.
Soft and lazy, that sums it up. And they'll just get mad if you give them any good advice.
This video sums up Wisconsin - football games are like mating season. I personally find it frightening and alienating at the same time. Why am I socially ostrasized for not being a drunk? Moving here was a mistake and I am leaving.
It was an improvement, I'm sure.
I live in Wisconsin and the weather is cold out for over half of the year. It's one of the most heavy drinking states in the country and prides itself on that. I'm still young and have been wanting to move out of here at some point.
I moved back here from California and it was a huge mistake. I definitely don’t belong here anymore.
Love it in MKE. Moved from Colorado and don't regret it one bit. Downtown MKE is thriving and the cost of living is insanely inexpensive. Can run outside a majority of the year with only a couple of exceptions. Some of the best sports teams in the US. Up north is beautiful. Only issue is the Chicago crowd moving up here.

Most people in most states can be somewhat pleasant. One can tell the true character of individuals by the politicians the citizens support and the policies the citizens push their politicians to support. Scott Walker speaks poorly of the character of citizens of WI. I have been to WI often since mid-1960s.
Winters are too long and too cold.

You are insane or intoxicated if you prefer Milwaukee / Wisconsin over Colorado. I too like Milwaukee...to visit....but just about anywhere in Colorado (exceptions being the Eastern Planes, Pueblo, Douglas County) is superior to Milwaukee or Wisconsin in every way. Especially true if you’re a runner. If you moved to MKE from Sterling, Pueblo or Douglas County I think I might understand but other than those places you way off base.
Does not U.S. Department of Defense or sub-contractor(s) store spent nuclear waste in significant quantities in greater Pueblo, CO?
I could not agree with this more. Like every last sentiment. Spot on nailed it
