One of the members of my 4x8 team has been having some issues as of late. He split 2:02 about 5 weeks ago and since then has averaged about 2:04-2:05 in open 8's and on the relay. The big issue when he races, and it's more of an issue in the open 8, is through 600-700 meters, he's great. It's usually that last 150 where he "taps out" and when that happens, it's not a pretty site to watch him finish.
The relay qualified for nationals in the emerging elite section next month. However, I'm still undecided if we're going. He's really the only one with confidence issues so I was wondering if anyone knew of any good confidence building strategies because mine have yet to hit home yet! Also, is it possible that he could be iron deficient? He hasn't complained about being exhausted and he's been consistent in races and workouts but could that be the problem? Any help is appreciated.
