I think we're jealous because he's faster than us and seems like a chill dude.

Plus one character reference for The Beast. James is about as stand-up a guy as I've ever known. No way in hoople he would stage any part of this. Congrats, James.
So many people love this guy, but not one person was willing to run with him. How sad for him.

Nice to see some of the old folks chiming in here. I am sure there are a couple of dozen former Triton distance runners and a couple of dozen former Stanford and Farm Team members who all will support James having done this legitimately.
I can say this. I ran on the Farm Team just prior to James and have former teammates and roommates who trained with him. I have met him since and know him. By all accounts he is an honest "Beast" who has accomplished several huge physical endeavors. Bordering on Rexing status. Both were Farm Teamers so there you go..

This thread really is getting to the heart of "what do we know", and "how do we know it": it is a true study in epistemology.
We see a man drink four beer and run a mile in less than 5 minutes. Or do we?
Is the track 400 meters? Yes because it is recognized as a track that we know is 400 meters. But how do we know that?
Were the beers full? Was it beer? Was that even the Beast running, or was it a lookalike?
Keep probing LRC. Ultimately we may learn that we actually know nothing about anything - unsettling or liberating?

The kid from down under who ran 5:03 using bottles could give him a run. I would think bottles would be slower to down, and the last cap wouldn't twist off. Cost him at least 3 seconds if not more. That should have been the first official sub 5.
Josh Harris ran 5:04 at last year's Autumn Classic at Melbourne University. He lost 10 seconds on the last beer because he couldn't get the top off the bottle. He then closed in a 58. Assuming he gained maybe 1-2 seconds tops on the last lap due to the extra 10 second break, it is safe to assume he lost about 8-9 seconds. There's no doubt he was in 4:55 shape on that day.
This Saturday he goes again in the 2014 Autumn Classic after missing last September's Parkville Beer Mile. As always, it will be a proper race, with many competitors, commentators, live audience. He's in great running shape, and if he can be at his usual drinking best then I think by Saturday, we won't need to be discussing whether this current 4:57 by Neilsen is legit or not. I just hope Harris gets 400,000 views on Youtube like this lad has got.

I got to see Luis Armenteros set the Super Masters record (40+) and be the first to do it sub 6 (http://www.beermile.com/records/ref_age/ages_40/agee_99). We might have had a 100 people there to watch, simply because "Luis is trying to break a Beer Mile Record!" sounded like a blast to people who hadn't even heard of beer mile. And it was very fun day.
So I don't see how this guy, who runs a running club for crying out loud, couldn't easily get a crowd for his sub 5 attempt. Weird.
The Beast is a consumate professional. Much like Lance took the organisation of a TdF team to a new level (ignoring the doping), James has controlled variables in a way that is uncommon in beer miling history.
The last thing he needed was the pressure of spectators. This was a record attempt, not a party.

Sammy would have destroyed this, and from the stories of their drinking, I have to assume more could also.
Never thought of this. Wanjiru was probably the best beer miler who never ran one. I'd guesstimate 4:50 conservatively.
This weekend the Australians are having their annual beermile they have each year. Could bet my house on it that the record will be lowered.
Well maybe it is a Kingston Beer Mile World Record, but perhaps we need a governing body that counts real beer! Budweiser is technically not a beer, its dishwater:
I posted this earlier with annoying errors, should be cleaned up....

If Sammy could have handled his beer, he would be alive right now.
Ultimate Fail.
Round 3 of the National Beer Mile Series is on this Saturday night in Melbourne.

Josh Harris will attempt to reclaim his WR.
Around 40-50 beer milers expected to race.

Inhaler.
Taking away the crowd has helped me feel better and focus. I've been getting a lot of my work done while watching season 1 of Friday Night Lights. To be honest, I'm not making any yards and I've got 2 seconds left on the clock. I wouldn't bet on a win for me.
My favorite part of my day is when I feel stuck or hopeless - that's when I let myself look at your face. Something about looking at you makes me feel stronger.
Anyways, goodnight.
I thought the beer can was supposed to be top down on the ground so we KNOW he drank it all. His went into a garbage can!
You are all pathetic human beings - You probably still can't wipe your own asses and will never be a tenth of this man.
Losers
It does make sense though. If anyone would take beer miling much too seriously, it would be someone who took D3 running much too seriously.

That's what champions do.

I'll take that bet, but do you actually own a home and what is it's value?

What is the most stupid running advice you've ever heard?🤣(It can be funny)
