If you're going to use a running analogy, it's more like a relay race with unequal numbers on each relay team. The US may have the better runners, but at some point the sheer volume of runners on the other team will begin to even things out.

The US military is the most overrated in history. They haven't ever won a war convincingly.

This (assuming it's sarcasm).

The 173rd is a well-trained conventional unit (paratroopers are generally better troops than leg units) but by no means "special forces." Not to mention the common misuse of the term (technically the Green Berets are the only "Special Forces," SEALS/Rangers etc are special operations forces). Long story short: Obama deployed a unit that can hopefully be trusted to not make US forces look stupid while they're in Europe, not one he expects to stand against a foreign army on its own.
