It isn't elitist, but last I checked a race is a competition. Race directors owe it to the public to provide accurate and complete results.

Where do we draw the line? How slow does one has to be before it no longer matters? If a competitor/participant is greater than 4hrs, can he/she be transported by any means (human,bus,bike,car) across the finish line and credited with that finish time in the overall results?

In the Kip Litton case, race staff felt justified taking action to provide the public with ACCURATE and CORRECT result even though he was NOT an elite runner. Shouldn't the BAA and USATF specify the rules here?

It's a USATF sanctioned event, so everyone participating is held to the same competition rules. This person received "assistance" and could have very well been DQed by the referee. We are past that window for a decision to be made.

Cool. So you're saying a protest would've had to have been filed with USATF within the window of the race ending, and since no one gave a shit (understandably), this man who hitched a ride with humans is credited with a Boston Marathon finishing time and a Boston Marathon finishers medal.

That depends on whether they released what they considered "final" results on the same day, in which case the games committee can take protests up to 7 days later. Since they haven't released anything resembling an actual list of results, just a search tool to find one result, there's no way to know what the deadline is.

But they are taking requests for results adjustment, which suggests the results aren't final and a protest just might fly.

Dragging a collapsed runner several hundred meters to the finish line, instead of allowing race officials to administer medical aid on the spot, is also an irresponsible and dangerous idea. The guy could have had hyponatremia. He could have been experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. How would Joe Jogger and his buddies know that?

They did not drag or carry him across the finish line, they carried him a dozen or so yards and then out him down where he was tended to by paramedics. He finished under his own power.

He was wearing a yellow bib, fourth wave, probably a charity runner in his first marathon.

The exact same thing happened about maybe an hour eariler at Boston, but no one is talking about it - a woman was being carried by about 5 men. I was coming down Boylston for my own finish and they had her right around the 26 mile mark. She was completely passed out - no exaggeration. I stopped because I thought she was dead, no joke. Anyway, a police officer was motioning and yelling at them to get to the side. I proceeded to run to the finish but I am so curious what happened with them. I saw the viral photo of the man being carried and at first thought it was the group that I saw. I was shocked to see it was a completely different person - probably about an hour later.

Anyway, my point is that I think the police made the people I saw stop before the finish.

Why da FSU ain't they DQ all the false starters then?
