Exactly. Dean would destroy Billy in his prime at distances over the marathon. That is a given. It is also likely that Dean could run faster than bill in the marathon if he cared about such a short distance.

Bill Rodgers is one of the greatest athletes of all time. To think Dean could beat Bill in any distance (1 mile to a hundred) is utterly laughable. Here's the proof; his 1974 training log:

The man lived high-mileage and was putting in 150 mile weeks and upto 35 miles a day. He could have easily transitioned to longer distances like Salazar did in Comrades, if he didn't want to run fast in shorter distances. No way Dean could compete with Bill.

This. Sadly, very few marathoners today care about racing or running fast times.

The problem is that hobby jogging is the rule these days. These people and the like of Dean K have no clue what racing is, they run to complete, rather than race to compete.

Dean K is not a real athlete, he could not compete with the top women, no way he could even comprehend racing with the likes of Bill Rodgers, that is laughable.

Thought I just read Dean ran a 3:09 marathon last year. Not sure where or how old he is ?? But really don't care enough to look. Rogers was the man !!

Rodgers has been a legend since 1975 and will be for all time. DK is the flavor (not even the flava flav) of the month.

Most younger folks don't even know who Bill Rodgers is or just how good he was! A class act, always!

This is a sad commentary. Bill is Boston, Karnazes is a silly brand. I once watched Bill race Drayton at Springbank and it was obvious that he was from a different planet. He floated. That experience has stayed with me.

The good news is that you don't need to stand in line to talk to or get words of encouragement from Bill Rodgers. Just say hello.
