As someone running the marathon this year and who ran last year, it seems that there is very little attention being given to the runners. There is no mention or appreciation for what the top women/men will run this year. Many more media outlets have been covering the race this year but fail to report on the running. Yes, the events surrounding last year were tragic and terrible. There are no excuses to be given for terrorism but it is a little ironic how we rally over this happening in our country and come out in full patriotic pride when the US is drone striking in other countries. Killing is still taking a life no matter what country you are from or views you hold. Boston has always been a celebration about running, now it seems to be a celebration of America.

Got it. So the crowd in that picture does not include any real runners. Man, do I long for the days when the Sports Illustrated cover on the week of the Boston Marathon was some fat steroid wreck in a stupid helmet swinging a bat.

I have to admit I've been kind of tired of the whole Boston thing for a few months. Every running magazine I get has devoted about half just to these stories. After a while it just becomes too much overkill.

Of course it's unpopular to say anything like that as evidenced by some of the other posters on this thread.

Seriously, I have to say I'm so sick of the sappy stories that have been dragged on for the entire year. The media tries to milk these tragedies for as long as they can to get ratings. They like to play on people's emotions for ratings so they create these sappy tear jerking stories and try to make "heroes" out of anybody they can get their hands on.

Tired of hearing the "Boston strong" crap, we will overcome, we will show the world this and that...oh God if I have to hear another Joe Biden Speech about how heroic Boston people are I'm going to barf. I understand it was a tragedy. 3 people died...way more people die everyday of more tragic causes. Get over it. Enough of this cheese fest. I want to watch the race, not two hours of cheesy sappy stories about random nobodies.

I'm a selfish little dweeb too it really disturbs me these acts of heroism and triumph over tragedy still rate any mention. We are all used to terrorism now and these events are wildly over-publicized. I just want to watch the damn race without any mention of the realities of life.

As a Bostonian, I'm offended. As a runner, I am offended. I will be running Boston on Monday and I cannot wait. I expect tributes to the victims to take over this year - and I think it's awesome.

And, no I am not a jogger/charity runner. I am a female with a decent (admittedly not elite) PR of 2:48.

What did I say that was so twisted? That the bombings were bad? That I want to watch the race? How the hell could you possibly be offended by my statements?

Now if you want to see something that is truly twisted and narcissistic, take a gander at the marketing gurus with $$ in their eyes at the spectacle of exploiting those loudly proclaiming that they're "Boston Strong". THAT is disgusting. It is also certainly within your rights to embrace such crude actions. Have fun with that.

I think one thing we can ALL agree on is that the course should shut down at 2:49 PM in remembrance of those who lost their lives, were permanently injured, or were otherwise affected by this devastating event. There should be no debate on this.
