I just finished a marathon in 3:30, but am hoping to qualify for Boston within the next few races.
I have a question about speedwork. Rather than doing marathon-specific training for a while. I was considering taking some time off to heal/recover. Then really focus on short distance speed like 5k and 10k, trying to get my times really fast, before upping the distance to half marathon/full marathon workouts.
I did most of my Marathon Pace work at 7:45/mile, easy pace at 8:45/mile. I'm considering trying to push 5k and 10k workouts into the mid to high 5:00/mile to really build speed.
Does this sound logical or should I stick to just pushing up my marathon pace?
Basically, I just really want to build a solid speed foundation. I never ran CC or track in HS so I never had low 5k or 10k times.
