I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping the past few weeks. I keep waking up every two hours or so and on the weekends can't sleep in even if I want to.
I have upped my mileage, which is the only thing I can think of that could be causing it.
I'm training for Boston (a little less than 5 weeks from now).
Current PR's - 31:48 / 1:11:54 / 2:33:34
Goal 2014 - 1:09:59 / 2:28:59
I'm 24 and have been doing moderately high mileage for years. Did multiple 90-100 mile weeks during the summer college, although I did most of these on the trails.
Now I'm working full time and haven't been on a trail since fall due to the snow.
I've been running mid to high 80's for mileage, along with hard workouts (3x3 mile at 16:15, 5x2 mile at 10:40, 3x4 mile at 5:37 pace, 10 mile tempo runs at 5:30-35 pace etc) and a few 18-22 mile long runs.
These past few weeks we've ramped up -- had a 97, 106, 74 and now 110 mile week. For some reason I can't get enough sleep at night. I keep waking up 3-4 times which seems to indicate overtraining.
The thing is that my performances haven't been suffering at all. I ran a 1:13:14 half marathon last weekend on a very hilly course while the weather was 15 deg and 20 mile winds and then came back the next day for 9 miles at a 5:42 pace. Yesterday was 12 miles at 7 flat pace and I feel fine.
I try to incorporate one or two days per week to run with a few girls I'm friends with running 8 minute pace to force myself to recover.
That in itself doesn't seem like overtraining if performances are fine, but what's with sleeping?
