You could lose a HEALTHY 10 pounds in about a month, maybe three weeks if you run a lot. Reduce calorie intake by about 500 a day and that's a pound a week. If you're also running 70 miles a week that's another 2 pounds a week for a total of 3 pounds a week. So about 3 weeks.

Alan! This is EXACTLY correct! You know the whole deal EXACTLY as I do. Wonder if someone will rip you a new one and tell you that you're promoting eating disorders?
Now, you do also need to tell this person that the above is true ONLY if they eat in those three weeks what their body would use (less the 500 calories you mentioned each day) when AT REST. For example, at 10 miles a day running, the person will burn an APPROXIMATE 1000 calories a dy more. The person can't just then suddenly eat 1000 more calories a day than they were before doing the running and expect to lose 10 pounds in 3 weeks.
But, you are right nonetheless (although I would suggest they take a little longer than 3 weeks to lose 10 pounds, and I'm pretty sure you'd agree with that).
