Asics has nothing to do with it, although they should drop him asap. He's been training with the Austin Track Club. Maybe he's on the Manzano jumping jacks and wind sprints training program.

This wasn't just a bad race. He's been practically nonexistent for the last two years.

He ran better when he was a fatty coming back from his mission. Guys out of BYU never seem to make it as pros (who was that NCAA XC champ 10+ years ago who also fizzled??)

Yeah , Austin was a bad pick. Awesome city, but just seems like no hardcore training by any of the guys there. Where are the 12x400's...the hard 10 milers...the repeat 1000's. Watch these guys workout, and it's hurdle hops and yoga stretching. Get out and destroy it! The manzano comment was spot on.

So you know from firsthand experience what their workouts are like? I'd actually like to know because it seems as though all those people with Asics are struggling or getting DNFs.

Batty looked great in winning Deseret News 10k last year, but granted, there was nobody all that close to his level to compete against, so that's not saying much. He was also much more than a minute slower than drug cheat Alene Reta's time from a couple years ago.

Question: Why can't the BYU boys go on a mission after they finish school? Also, for the girls, they usually go after they are 21. Is that because they are considered to be an old maid and not likely to get married, so they may as well be on a mission?

They changed the age, so most girls are now going at 19.

As for why the guys don't go later, it's a lot nicer to get in a year of school, get used to being away from home, then go on the mission. Plus, when you get back, you have three straight years of running with the team and can build off of that later as opposed to spending four years with the team, then sucking it up and never getting close to what you were before going on the mission. They can go until they turn 27, but it just makes sense to go when you're 18.

But hardly anyone really runs after college. Why not just do four straight in school, then do the mission? I realize that it made sense when there was a draft, people like Romney could dodge by going off to France, then get married and have kids immediately after returning. But now, it doesn't seem fair to make an exception to the four in five rule, or fair to have 25 year olds going against 17 year olds.

Don't know why he's slow now. Austin is a great place for training.

But does anyone know what's been going on with batty? What has he been doing with Asics? Is it their training, or has he been injured off and on? 16 seconds seems to be a big slow down in two years for someone his age and with his talent.

He looks a little beefy in the photos from Milrose. He should drop some weight and lay off the burritos and soft drinks.

Austin is NOT a great place to train.
