I disagree, but for slightly different reasons.
disaster would have to happen to not break 230.
your mileage is great. however it seems that you're training very intensely. if I had to make any changes I would be easing back a little bit on the pace of some workouts to get more mp miles. it almost seems like your hammering hardcore bc you're frustrated with not breaking 220 when I bet the barrier is more mental at this point..
with that being said, your training looks great and you're obviously in fantastic shape. 218 wouldn't surprise me at all. personally I'd ease back a little bit more this week than you have planned. Go into it really fresh.
furthermore if I was in your shoes I would approach the next cycle the same way as this one. you'll be in better shape so those paces should feel a little bit easier.
either way. Best of luck getting the ot. if you stay healthy I think you have what it takes.
He can still post his bib# if he wants.OP: You've done some good HALF marathon training. I think you should drop down to the half if you can. You could go low 67. Then bump up your ENDURANCE training during your next cycle and then go for sub 2:20. If you really are intent on trying to break 2:20, DO NOT go out faster than 1:10. It will take every amount of MENTAL muscle you have to hold it together the last few miles. I predict a BIG blowup the last few miles. Hopefully, you can hold it together enough to break 2:30. Good luck and I look forward to your post race report.

MC: are you stupid? He HAS ran 222. How is that not finishing strong? I mean its no 254. So i guess he has some room to improve.
OP - Where have you been training?
Did you follow my advice from last thread that you started on this a few weeks ago?
You should know how your body responds to training by now.

You are a head case.
You have talent and are young. Those two things will get you a good time. If just getting the "B" standard is your life goal, you should be able to get that on a nice flat n fast course with plenty of company to run with.
However, if you shoot for 2:18, you will surely make your 2:20.
Train for 2:18 and toughen up mentally.
So....How'd ya do?
Looks like the winner went 2:21:56. I assume that was the OP.
Right on the money. Great job!
Nice race Ben
the OP said he's done several 'thons, while i think this was Ben Bruce's debut....so me thinks the OP is not BB.
2:21:56. Great run.
What do you have to say now, MichaelMc?
I doubt MichaelMc is coming back here after that beat down.

The original poster was not Ben Bruce. Out of respect for his choice to be anonymous on this thread, I'll simply note that the original poster ran a different marathon over the weekend, broke 2:25, and did not break 2:22.
His running history suggests that he can still run a personal record on a legitimate, record-quality marathon course, but his training and racing choices are not optimal for someone truly focused on peak performance. If you're really serious about a peak performance in the marathon, one of the tradeoffs is that you probably need to forego the rewards and distractions of winning or placing highly in a bunch of other marathons. If you choose to compete seriously in five or six marathons a year, that's fine, but don't expect to maximize your potential in any of them.
If that's true, why would he lie in his OP on where he was running?(also, it wouldn't be too hard to figure out who he is since there aren't a lot of early February marathons)
Is it serial marathoner Bryan Morseman?
I'm not going anywhere. It's looks like from the results that I was either right or VERY close. The second and third place finishers went 2:28+ with HUGE positive splits - close to 2:30 and indicating that he lacked ENDURANCE. It is likely that the OP was the fourth place finisher who had a +24 minute POSITIVE SPLIT.OP - Take a couple of EASY weeks. Then spend some time the rest of this Winter and into the Spring building your ENDURANCE. NO fast running. Then start a 10-12 week plan focusing on your SPEED while maintaining the ENDURANCE you built the last few months. You'll then be in shape for a FAST Fall marathon. I'll be glad to HELP you if you want.

Uh, no you weren't. I was the 3rd place finisher and the 2nd place guy had a PR of 2:26 coming into the race, so neither of us were the OP.
Also, the halfway split on the website was way off. I ran 73:30 / 75:13, but the conditions in the 2nd half of the course was a bit more brutal so neither of us ran "huge positive" splits" either.
MichaelMc
You sound like a mixture between ventolin^3 and António Cabral.
Creepy...
