I have read a bit of the ACTUAL TEXT Lydiard wrote (with others), and have come to see just how far off most peoples' concepts of his idea really. I do think we have come a long way since then in terms of training knowledge, but I still think these principles have proven true:
Frequent, short Wind Sprints, Downhill Strides, & (Develop Speed)
Steady State Running (Improve Aerobic Capacity)
Jogging: Overall health, relaxation, aerobic conditioning,
I know this IS NOT AT ALL a Lydiard plan, but I would like some input from Lydiard guys.
Every morning: 30-60 minutes of TRUE JOGGING (Clear lactate, limber up, etc.)
Main PM Workout (I plan to constantly tack on to the 6:00 m/m stuff as I build my base; I am starting back from the bottom, and 3 miles will be my "Long Run", in addition to long jogging)
For a 1:59 800, the calculators give a vVO2 at 4:40 and a vLT of 5:20, so those 4X400 and 8X200 will eventually become 1X1600 in 5:15 & 2X800 in 2:20 ONLY as they become VERY RELAXED but fast
