Hi,
I've had a nice 20 week build-up for the Phoenix RnR Marathon (yeah, I know).
I did my 20 mile peak run at 6:45/mile. I ran in Mizuno Elixir 8's (that particular pair had 420 miles on them before being thrown away in December). Felt awesome during the workout but took about 2 weeks to feel fully recovered. And my feet were sore.
So, I continued to do the majority of my workouts in my bulky Adidas Sequences and planned to get a pair of the Wave Rider 17's for race day (I really liked the 15's) with the plan of standing on the starting line with 30 miles on them.
After a few runs last week I realized that I did not like the new iteration of the wave rider. They feel big and mushy, and give me hot spots after about 20 minutes. My Coach said to just run in the Adidas, that a few ounces wasnt't going to make or break my race after such a good training cycle, but I went out today about bought some new Elixer 8's and put 4 miles on them. I estimate that by race day I will have 20-25 miles on them. Also, I plan on wearing them "all day err day" until race day, i.e. at work, at the track, on the road, on the plane, in bed, at the hotel, etc.
Will this be enough?
It seems like the only issue for me is breaking in the toe liner. Cushy liners irritate my feet. Wish I'd kept my old Elixer toe liners. Oh well, live and learn.
Current stats: 6'2 177 lbs. Running since 2010. Forefoot striker. Any advice that will help put my mind at ease would be greatly welcome.
