There is a difference and repeated, wasted energy can rack up mile after mile. In college, I tried to copy Alberto's form. It did not lead to success but I think it has something to do with talent.
Mo doesn't have 10k form. He has 1500/5k form. He bobs up and down a lot compared to true marathon guys. Check out some footage of him in London this year. His vertical movement is much greater than the other guys'.
the form changes alberto's talking about are addressing this issue.
AS is trying to get all the other coaches to screw with their runners form so they all get injured and can't compete. He isn't really changing anything.
