How long does it take to build up mileage to the point where you can run as much as you want (like 20 miles a day) and not get injured?

If you start out running X(0) miles per week and build up by "The 10% Rule", then your mileage X(N) at week N is
X(N) = X(0) * 1.1^N.
The number of weeks it'll take you reach 20 miles per day (or 140 per week) is the smallest N such that
140 ≤ X(0) * 1.1^N.
In other words, it is
ceiling(log_1.1(140/X(0)))
where I'm referring to the ceiling function described here
my soph high school brother went from 0 mpw (sept 1st) to 90mpw (nov.20). runs it at 7:40 pace, and feels great. he never ran track/xc before in his life, and is only a high 18's guy. so anyone can do it if you are relatively fit.
It depends on the individual. A soft surface helps. But most importantly is the ability to not get injured. Some people just don't get injured no matter what they do. If you're one of those people you can go from like 60-70 mpw to 140 mpw in just a couple months. If you're not one of those people it may take several years. Good luck!
