greetings Masters. good luck to anyone running the national road champs 12k in Alexandria today.
Missed my goal time by 12 seconds last sunday, finishing Veterans' Day 10k 20th overall, 1st M50-54 in 36:12. Pretty even pacing by time(5:47, three 5:50's exactly, 5:52, 5:49, 1:14 leftover part), but since first half was mostly into the wind and second half mostly with a tailwind this is tantamount to dying a little. For reference, British Olympian Claire Hallissey (women's winner) was right behind me from about 1 mile to 4 miles, then put 25 seconds on me in last two.
So not quite a success to cap off the Fall but not terrible either. I'll chalk it up to a metric conversion issue -- instead of running 5:48 miles, I was managing 5:48 1600's.
Post-season goofing-off week since then ends today (lots of x-training and a few short slow runs). On to 7 weeks of building endurance, mixing in a couple races to finish my club's 2013 series, and then start a 15-week program for Boston 2014.
Great to see big upset win by my grad school alma mater USC over Stanford last night. Fight on, and have a great week,
Dave
