You sir, are wrong. It would be ironic if she was trying to repair his knee somehow, or prevent injury, and then it was this very attempt which caused exactly what it was intended to prevent. THAT is irony.
The way you explain it is far too broad and stupid to be ironic. Irony is subtle and succinct. It's not just: "I tried to do something positive and something negative happened." There has to be a stronger and more subtle connection between the action and the results. That's why coincidence isn't ironic, which is a confusion people make all the time.

For example, irony is like winning the lottery and dying the next day, or rain on your wedding day, or someone with fear of flying dying in a plane crash, or a traffic jam when you are already late, etc. Subtle stuff like that is ironic, don't you think?
