how big was this girl? a 300lb. heffer?
I can't imagine how terrible this girl feels right now. Lochte too, but holy crap, to get so excited about seeing a swimmer you're a huge fan of only to hurt him so badly he can't swim - that's some irony right there

Not too ironic.
It is actually ironic. Her intention was to hug, meet, and talk to one of her favorite swimmers. Instead she hurt him so badly he can't swim. Textbook situational irony.

Does his injury make him not a swimmer? Not situational irony. Sorry.
Is there not a "sharp discrepancy" between her intentions and the consequences of her actions? Give it up, high school kid.
He has hurt himself in some strange ways.
Women are often the downfall of men. This story is another illustration of this.
lol cool I love when stuff like this happens
He must be a pansy-ass Olympic swimmer to be taken down like that by a teenage girl.
I would like to read what the girl has to say about this situation. It would probably go something like this: "We were the only two by the pool and he ran after me like a crazy man. Luckily I escaped after he slipped."
She gets away with it because the athlete is a male and she's a girl. A boy who hurt a female athlete would have been incarcerated and sued for millions.
That's how I wanna go out...by having teenage girls rush me to death
He should sue that little girl for all she and her family is worth. absolutely nail him into the ground. guy has got to train

Thats different. Males are bigger than females, and female athletes are usually smaller.
Was he backing up? Did she punch him? Where's the video?

Who the hell cares about some swimmer? This girl might have long jump talent.

Oh my god are you kidding? You actually have no idea what irony is haha. What are you talking about "is he still a swimmer?" What does that have to do with it. It's ironic because the girl came into the situation with one thing in mind (to hug her favourite swimmer, i.e.: do something positive to him) and the opposite occurred (she injured him i.e. did something negative to him). That's situational irony, it's amazing how few people understand what irony is.
