I agree, she should be running cross country right now, why risk running a marathon at such an early age? It may cost her a future scholarship down the line, I hope not, but if I were a college coach, it is a major red flag.

I don't believe Hadley has any interest in running in college so costing herself a college scholarship is not a real cost.

OK, I expect you to be leading the bandwagon of rah-rah-rahs whenever an American man runs 2:12 or an American women runs 2:24. 9 minutes off the WR is nice but not especially noteworthy regardless of the age group.
I didn't start this thread - why would I start one about that? All I said is I don't have a problem with someone else doing it.
Apparently, she accepted prize money at other races. She's not eligible for college athletics. A lot of eggs in one basket...

Wow the half was pretty deep.
Any thoughts on running a PR on this course compared to Philly? Thinking about my 1st marathon next year but feel I would need some people to run with. I am an older wannabee and would hope for a sub 2:33, but just not much company in that range. Do you think going to somewhere like Philly or going 4 wks earlier and doing Chi Town would give an old first timer a better shot at hitting a time.
I ran 2:33:34 this year at Indy. As what was said before, you're with the HM until mile 7, then it splits. It's less hilly than Chicago, and the weather tends to be more consistent than Chicago. But, you can run by yourself. I was lucky enough to have the 10th place guy pull me through 21 miles before he got a 100m lead on me, but the guy in front of us who we passed at 20 or so was all alone from mile 7 (we could see him the entire time).
That said, if you have a HM time to get you an elite entry, they do a great job taking care of you with a warm up area inside, special gear check, plus a warm place to cool down / chill instead of being out in the cold. Feel free to email me if you have questions.

4 names in one sentence! That's impressive, even for a liberal!
Nice to see the left still has the monopoly on immature name calling.
I like the nonconformist attitude in pursuit of goals in the distance she prefers.
She could quit right now and she can already say she met her goal of qualifying for the Olympic Trials.
(Similar to how for many marathoners, their goal is to qualify for Boston).
The main problem with this distance at her age is the amount of training time. The time to do 110 miles/week is available in high school, but it may be harder to come by in college. And the Trials are still 3 years away.
I suppose instead of having such a distant goal,
she will probably next focus on the A standard (2:37).
That is certainly feasible.
And probably after that it will be trying to be top 3 in the trials. That may be very tough.
If I was her father, I would be concerned that her goals are perhaps a bit too aligned with his interests. Be he seems to be fairly self-aware of this. The question is possibly whether she has the same self awareness. Time will tell. In the meantime, it's great to see how her training effort has paid off in reaching her goal.

These are true and accurate statements

Unfortunately, this is inaccurate.
Seb Coe was a middle distance prodigy so his Dad, Peter, studied and became a middle distance coach so he could help him.
Alana Hadley wants to be a great marathoner so her dad studied to become a marathon coach so he could help her.
Worked out well for Seb and Peter.
Time will tell if it works out for Alana and Mark. So far so good and Mark seems to be doing a good job helping others athletes as well.
Maybe you should check out the results a little closer before you say that Colleen's & Alana's aren't noteworthy.
Here is a glance at the women's field at the Monumental Marathon, excluding Colleen & Alana and the fact that they are both headed to the 2016 Olympic Trials and Colleen set a single age American best -
Who was 2nd? - Just a two-time winner of the Philadelphia Marathon.
3rd place, a multi-time NCAA All-American had an 8 minute PR to qualify for the Olympic trials
6th and 7th place were both past event winners.
9th place ran in the World Mountain running championships earlier this fall.
It might not be front page of letsrun or the print edition of Runner's World but it's a race worth mention and in Indy's it's definitely noteworthy.
Hey Indyguy, I'm glad to have this race in town - finally some elites running on our streets instead of just on the empty IUPUI track in June. I went to the expo last year to hear Nick Willis and Wesley Korir. They were great and the video they made was better:

I skipped this year but hoping they bring more elites back in 2014.
