They did not go 1-2. They went 1-4

I agree that Colleen's and Alana's runs were noteworthy. That's why I ended my original post with a congrats for them.

BUT, the OP responded in a way that indicated that his/her concern was with the anonymity of the Kenyan in the headline. Your take is an interesting one, but clearly not what the OP had in mind.

As to your second post, Alana finished fourth, not second.

Still, great runs by them!

Can you qualify for the 2016 Olympic Trials in 2013? Is the qualifying window even open yet and have the standards even been announced?

Get over yourself. Qualifying for the Olympic Trials means you have earned a chance to compete for a spot in the Olympics. There IS no age standard.

Master's "record" means you're a loser not good enough to compete open. Anyone who pays any attention to the druuged-up masters scene knows that the records are a mess and only awarded to people who are a part of the "old boy network."

If you scaled 5 minutes for the marathon to the equivalent for 1500 m then no, I probably wouldn't be, but I don't claim to be noteworthy either.

So, can you tell me who finished 2nd and 3rd? Hadley finished 4th. I guess their qualifying for OT's in a faster time doesn't matter. And again, the "random" African set a new course record 2:16:xx. That deserves nothing I guess.

That was not my point. I wanted to draw attention to the reduction of the racer winner to a nameless Kenyan, rather than a guy with a name that lives in the burbs of Minneapolis. The original headline drew no attention to the race and was a terrible choice.

But you make a good point. The achievements of the 2 ladies would have been a better headline. The last time I checked the headline was changed to something about Indianapolis Public School kids volunteering at the race.

it wasn't some "random african" - look up the word random again on your "smart phone"

The women deserved the title in an article about women's running...the guy won the marathon, regardless of his nationality, he deserves the title.
